Bathing Trunk Nevus
Bathing trunk nevus is the medical term indicating the dark coloured hairy patch of skin present at birth in most of the cases.It is said that at times the bathing trunk nevus may develop into melanoma, a type of skin cancer. A giant form of nevus disease may be as large as 8 inches, and it is said that the nevus continues to grow with the growth of the child. Bathing trunk nevus is said to occur in every one birth for around 5, 00,000 live births or more.

Bathing trunk nevus is caused by certain kinds of defects that may occur to the foetus in the womb. Though, it may be genetical in certain cases. This disease is also caused by spina bifida, neurofibromatosis, growth of fatty tissue cells and presence of other nevi.

The patient of bathing trunk nevus may complain of the following symptoms:-
- The patient may complain of the brown to bluish-black coloured skin.
- This patchy skin may be found in any part of the body, mostly arms, legs and middle part of the body.
- The patchy skin may contain hairs.
- The skin may also be smooth to wart-like.
- The side lines of these patchy skins may be uneven or regular in nature.
- There may also be small and satellite areas surrounding the large nevus.

The surgery may be done to remove the bathing trunk nevus. Skin grafting may also be done where necessary. Laser therapy is also quiet effective in removing the nevus from the body. Some people have large nevus; surgery may be done in several stages to remove the nevus completely. Dermabrasion is also practiced in certain cases to help improve the appearance of the skin. Steroid medications are also recommended by the doctor. |
